Welcome, future foster!

Thank you for your interest in fostering with Texas Animal Rescue Society! If you love animals but can't make a long-term commitment right now, or if you simply love cats and want to help save lives, fostering might be the perfect fit for you.

​

What Does Fostering Mean?

​

As a foster-based rescue, our foster families are the heart of our mission—they're what allow us to say YES to more cats in need. By opening your home temporarily, you directly save lives.

We have a wide variety of cats looking for temporary homes:

  • Mama cats with unweaned kittens

  • Orphaned kittens who need bottle-feeding

  • Adult cats with mild to severe health issues

What do they all have in common? They need a loving family to care for them while they wait for their forever homes.

What We Provide

​

✓ All veterinary care – We cover 100% of medical expenses for your foster cat

✓ Food and litter – Most foster families provide these, but if that's a barrier for you, let us know and we'll work something out!

What We Ask of You

​

To help these cats find their perfect match, we need your help with:

​

  • Attending adoption events – These are the easiest way to get your foster cats adopted! We host events every Saturday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the PetSmart location in Magnolia.

  • Respond to adoption inquiries within 24 hours – Quick responses help match cats with families faster.

  • High-quality photos – Show off their adorable personalities! Send us a few photos to add to their adoption profile.

  • A description – Tell us about their quirks, habits, and charm so we can match them with the right family.

  • Flexibility for meet-and-greets – Either with potential adopters at your home or by bringing your foster to our PetSmart partner location in Magnolia.

Health & Safety First

​

Despite our best efforts to vaccinate and keep cats healthy, fostering does come with some health considerations:

Common illnesses you might encounter:

​

  • Cat colds (Rhinotracheitis)

  • Eye infections (conjunctivitis)

  • FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis)

  • FIV and FeLV (which we test for)

  • Panleukopenia in stray unweaned kittens (a serious virus)

Protecting your own pets:

​

  • ✓ Keep your pets' vaccinations up to date

  • ✓ Separate your foster from your pets for the first two weeks

  • ✓ This simple precaution goes a long way in preventing infections!
